Happy Chinese New Year! 2022 is the year of the tiger. People born in the year of the tiger are known to be brave, competitive, unpredictable and confident. They can also be charming and well-liked by others. Does this sound like you?
I’ve put together a list of four great Chinese related books for children and young people so that they can get a better understanding of the Chinese culture and perhaps learn some of the Chinese language too!
‘Where Is My Little Dragon? – 我的小龙在哪儿? Bilingual Children’s Book Chinese English with Colouring Pics.’ By Ingo Blum
This book is part of a bilingual series of animal find and seek books for young children. Each line of the story is written in English and Chinese, it’s a simple story for early learners and there are extra pages at the end of the book, purely for drawing and colouring. Here’s an excerpt from the book:
“Where is Amy the dragon lady? She is missing. Let’s find her! The search for her in different places is a delightful read-aloud. Is she helping a princess? Or a brave knight? Maybe she just flew away for some reason. Maybe dragons cannot fly at all?”
‘Chinese New Year for Kids’ by Baby Professor
This book is a great way for your little ones to learn about why Chinese New Year is celebrated in this informative picture book. The book is filled with stunning imagery and very easy to understand wording.
‘Bilingual Colouring Book for Kids’ by Rose I.K.
Another bilingual book is the ‘Bilingual Colouring Book for Kids’ by Rose I.K. which not only has cute designs for your kids to colour in but also teaches your child the English and Chinese names of each picture.
‘Chinese New Year’s Dragon’ by Rachel Sing and Shao Wei Liu.
The final book is ‘Chinese New Year’s Dragon’ by Rachel Sing and Shao Wei Liu. This book is “A festive account of one family’s Chinese New Year celebration.
