It’s that time of the year again where you’ve got six weeks to try and entertain your kids. You have no idea where to take them, and don’t want to spend too much money whilst trying to keep them happy. Well this guide is here for you! We’ve rounded up some of the best summer holiday clubs for 12 years and up, and they’re all based in the West Midlands. If you do plan to take your children to some of these clubs, please let us know which ones you’ve chosen.
Central Youth Theatre is Wolverhampton’s leading youth theatre club, and has been ever since 1983. Thousands of young people have participated in this club and have now gone on to pursue careers in film, theatre and television! Their performances range from cultural stories, to comedies, to GCSE English Literature adaptations to aid with examinations.
To join Central Youth Theatre you will need a membership. This is open to young people aged between 8 – 25. The Juniors club (8 – 12) will meet On Wednesdays at 5:15 – 7:15pm and Sundays at 11am – 1pm. The Seniors club (13 – 25) will meet on Sundays at 1 – 3pm. The theatre also offer specialist workshops for those with disabilities (age 10+), they meet on Thursdays at 4 – 5:30pm.

The YMCA offer a range of activities that are available during the summer holidays. These are funded with the HAF programme so if you have a HAF code this would be the best option for you. Their activities are for ages 8 – 16, below you can see an example of their timetable.
GKR Karate offer children’s sessions in karate, and will teach them the basics of striking, blocking and kicking techniques. The students are free to progress at their own rate, depending on their levels of fitness and flexibility.
Karate is a great sport for young people to build a range of skills such as:
- Self confidence
If you are concerned with your children misusing karate outside of their sessions, GKR do offer support and guidance, and will talk to your child about their behaviour.
GKR Karate even offer a FREE class for you to try out to see if your child likes it or not. You will have to contact them to learn more about membership details, as they often run discounts depending on the amount of family members joining at that given time. They have tons of locations across the Midlands, so what are you waiting for?!
Birmingham Bouncers is a trampolining club based in the Newman University Sports Center in Birmingham. Their holiday session will start in the next couple of weeks, focusing on building up your bouncing skills. Their classes provide a range of skills to learn:
- How to safely mount and dismount
- Basic jumps
- Body landings
- Routine construction
- Fitness and conditioning
