If you’re considering transferring to us from another agency or local authority, we will try to make it as easy and quick as possible for you.
To transfer, you’ll first need to get in touch with us so that we can arrange a visit to you in your home to chat about what’s involved. Whether or not you have a child placed within your care can depend on the process.
I have a child placed in my care
You’ll need to tell your existing agency as soon as possible, as well as contacting us. They’ll then arrange a meeting to discuss the process, and we will attend that meeting with you.
The local authority will need to make a decision about whether or not the child you are fostering can move with you.
- If they can – you can go ahead with the process for approval to foster with us
- If they can’t – then arrangements will be made for the child to move to another carer, and the process for your approval as a Freedom Fostering carer
Many carers can bring the child in their care with them when they transfer.
I don’t have a child placed with me
You’ll need to give 28 days’ notice to your existing agency. You can then apply to foster with us straight away.
After we’ve had a chat with you in your home, we’ll ask them for a reference. Once received, we can begin your transfer process.
One of our social workers will be allocated to you and will support you through your assessment. During this stage, you’ll also take part in our pre-approval training.
