A Joyous Jamaican Conversation

“Celebrate Windrush Day 2022 at an exclusive screening of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s first ever self produced film; A Joyous Jamaican Conversation, an in-conversation celebration of Jamaica’s Windrush Generation. This roundtable discussion celebrates a generation of seemingly ordinary people with extraordinary life stories to share, stories of being invited to leave Jamaica to help build a better Britain, of receiving houses and pardners, of hard work and success, of resilience and faith, and of joyous social gatherings and the sights, sounds and flavours of life in Jamaican family homes.”

Armed Forces Day

There will be a FREE family fun event taking place in the city centre of Wolverhampton to celebrate Armed Forces Day 2022. “The event will host a fun fair, a range of food stalls and bars as well as a series of interactive activities for everyone to enjoy including an escape room, laser tag and face painting. A military parade featuring serving personnel, cadets and veterans will be a focal point of the event and there will be the opportunity to see military drill demonstrations in the event arena and talk to military personnel on their information stands.

Live entertainment will run throughout the day on the stage comprising a range of musical styles to appeal to all the family and the event will close with the grand finale when The Wings Parachute Team will lower the Armed Forces Day flag in spectacular style with their parachute display.”

Queen’s Jubilee Events

St Joseph’s Church

Join St Joseph’s Church in Merry Hill for a celebration of the Queen’s Monarchy with lots of food, games, music and fun. There will be two events taking place, the first is a community celebration, the second is a street party and BBQ.

Date & time: 4th June 10am – 2pm – Community celebration. 5th June 10:30 am – Jubilee Celebration Service. 12 noon – Street party and BBQ. Location: Coalway Road, Merry Hill, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, WV3 7NP.

Platinum Jubilee Family Day

Visit the New Art Gallery in Walsall for a super fun tea party where you and your family can: make lolly stick Queen’s guards, platinum paper crowns, plaster cast your own coin design, help to decorate the building in red, white and blue wool and contribute to the Union Jack hand-print bunting and the giant collaborative collage inspired by Hew Locke’s Jungle Queen II, in the Gallery’s Collection.

RAF Cosford Air Show

The RAF Cosford Air Show is returning this year to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee by showcasing achievements in aviation and engineering through show-stopping flying action!

Date & time: Sunday 12th June, time is TBC. Price: Adults are £34, under 16s are FREE. Location: RAF Cosford, Wolverhampton, WV7 3EX.

Under 5’s Day Picnic Party

Join Dudley Zoo as they celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with a fabulous fancy dress party! Your child is welcome to dress up as a King, Queen, Prince or Princess whilst taking part in a variety of activities such as:

  • Meet Jambi the Tiger & Monty the Monkey Mascot Characters
  • Goody Bags
  • Tombola
  • Animal Encounters
  • Children’s entertainer, Flip the Clown
  • Face Painting
  • Jubilee-themed Craft Activities
  • Sand play (you’ll need to bring a bucket and spade)

Enjoy Wolverhampton Live!

Enjoy Wolverhampton Live is the biggest FREE festival for family entertainment and live music in the Midlands! There will be lots of performances on stage from CBeebies presenters Evie Pickerill and Joanna Adeyinka-Burford who will be going head to head on stage. Watch and join in, as they complete some crazy challenges to avoid getting a PIE in the face! 
There will also be some face painters on hand throughout the day ready to give you a complete makeover!

In the evening you will be joined by Martin Kemp, Dannielle from Urban Cookie Collective, Tina Cousins, Rozalla, Kym Mazelle and Oceanic who will be keeping you entertained during their live music performances. They will be singing and dancing to their top hits so you’d better get your groove on!

Date & time: Saturday 11th June. Daytime entertainment – 1pm – 4pm. Evening entertainment – 6pm – 10pm. Face painters – 12pm – 4pm. Location: Wolverhampton City Centre, Queen Square, WV1 1TH.

Talking About My Generation

Talking About My Generation is a theatre performance that takes you through some of the main events from the 1960s. “You’ll be taken into the world of music, moon landings and more and watch the decade flourish through a collection of intimate, moving and comical stories.”
