Playday at the Wolseley Centre

Join the Wolseley Centre for a fun filled day taking part in forest school bush craft, minibeast hunting, wild yoga and a mini wild obstacle course! You will need to book in advance for this event.

Date and time: Wednesday 3rd August, 10am – 3:30 pm. Location: The Wolseley Centre, Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, ST17 0WT. Price: Family tickets (2 adults and 3 children): £25. Individual tickets: £10.

Wellbeing Show: Mind, Body and Soul Experience

This wellbeing show is a 2 day experience for you and your family to enjoy a range of activities including:

  • Watch FREE talks and presentations
  • Read information from stands including retail, therapy, readers, authors and more
  • Live music to enjoy
  • Demonstrations of Tai Chi
  • Native American smudging ceremonies
  • Guided meditations
  • Activities and crafts for children
  • Refreshments

Teddy Bear Outing

This is a great day out for your little ones, where they get to spot the teddy bears on their journey on the steam trains, solve some puzzles and win prizes!

Date and time: 13th – 14th August, 11:30am – 4pm. Location: Apedale Valley Light Railway, Loomer Road, Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 7LB. Price: Kids travel for FREE.

The Three Musketeers : Open Air Family Musical

Young D’Artagnan comes to the big city with one aim: to follow in his father’s footsteps and become one of the King’s Musketeers. When he gets to Paris he meets three of the Musketeers; Athos, Porthos and Aramis. With his new-found friends he must prove himself and try to stop the evil plans of Cardinal Richelieu and the mysterious Milady, but will he do enough to earn his place as a Musketeer? All for one and one for all!

This family friendly musical will be an incredible mix of amazing adventure, magical music, comical characters and fantastic sword fights. The whole family will be entertained, from the youngest to the eldest and you will have an experience you’ll be talking about for years to come! So, pack a blanket or chair, order your refreshments from the Bolton Gate café and join Boxtree Productions in the open air for this wonderful show. You will love it!

Bat Walk at the Wolseley Centre

Join Staffordshire Bat Group for a short introductory talk about bats, followed by a walk around the Wolseley grounds at dusk. You will see how they use their Bat detectors, which enable them to hear the ultrasonic calls of the bats as they fly and hunt. Come and learn about these fascinating and unique creatures.

Shield Workshop

This is a great workshop for your younger children if they are crafty and want to make their own shield that they can take home afterwards. Parents/carers will have to stay for the workshop but all materials are provided.

Date and time: 28th August, 10am – 11:30am, or Midday – 1:30pm, or 2pm – 3:30pm. Location: Stafford Castle Visitor Centre, Newport Road, Stafford ST16 1DJ. Price: £3.

Pitch up and Play at Lower Drayton Farm

Pitch up and Play is back for summer 2022! Bring your camping gear and up to 6 people to get the chance to purchase half price tickets to the farm’s attractions. With 2km of indoor play space featuring 6-metre high racing astro slides, gravity drop slides, Ninija Llama run, vertigo-inducing skywalk – and more – there’s loads to keep even the most energetic entertained. The smallest family members, meanwhile, can play safely in Piglets’ Playpen for under 2s, and adventurous under 5s have their very own 3-storey playframe and role play area to inspire young imaginations.

When you’re done exploring the indoor space, you can head outdoors for even more fun – discovering the racing zipwires, grass toboggan raceway, bouncy pillows, sand & water play, Farm-u-la-One go-karts and Treetop Towers climbing frame. You can also hop on board the farm trailer ride for fun – yet informative – tour of the 750 acre beef and arable farm to learn all about what’s happening at the time of your visit, and you’ll also find lots of friendly animals to meet – from pigs, cattle and sheep in their large animal zone to bunnies, Guinea Pigs and the resident meerkats in the small animal area. During August, the PLAY@ experience will also include the amazing Dino Lab Maize Maze, which will see you embark on an interactive adventure to find your way through the maize maze and solve the mystery of the Drayton Dinos!

Wild About Tamworth Youth Rangers Project

The Youth Ranger project gives young people the opportunity to help enhance their local wild spaces, meet new people, learn new skills and ‘Make A Difference’. These sessions will involve some practical conservation tasks, using a variety of hand tools and give participants the chance to try their hand at some bush craft activities.

Date and time: 24th August, 10am – 1pm. Location: Hodge Lane Local Nature Reserve, Meet at Chandlers Drive, B77 4NY. Price: FREE.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea Performance

Direct from the West End, the Olivier Award nominated smash hit show, The Tiger Who Came to Tea returns on tour.

The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? What they certainly don’t expect to see at the door is a big, stripy tiger! Join the tea-guzzling tiger in this delightful family show; packed with oodles of magic, sing-a-long songs and clumsy chaos. Don’t miss this stunning stage adaptation of the classic tale of teatime mayhem… expect to be surprised!

Commonwealth Games in Cannock

Come and watch the Commonwealth Games mountain bike cycling course on the big LED screens in Cannock Chase. Deckchairs are available but feel free to bring your own seating. If mountain biking piques your interest, there’s a great opportunity to learn how to do it yourself here.
