Birmingham 2022 is staging the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay ahead of the Commonwealth Games this summer. It is an epic journey across the Commonwealth, with The Queen’s Baton visiting all 72 nations and territories.
The Relay began on 7 October 2021, with Her Majesty The Queen placing her Message to the Commonwealth into the Baton. The Baton is now on its 294-day long journey to every corner of the Commonwealth, and Shrewsbury has the honour of receiving the baton on 18th July.
To commemorate this once in the lifetime moment for the county, an afternoon of FREE celebrations in the town are being organised by Shropshire Council, with the support of award-winning local events business, Shropshire Festivals.

The organisers of Newport Show are excited to host their annual event after it being cancelled due to Covid for the last two years. The show aims to promote agriculture with the farm to food journey. They will showcase all aspects of the industry from livestock to modern day farming equipment. The show will feature delicious food with authentic, artisan flavours from all over the world, plus live music to keep you entertained.

Open to all new and prospective parents/carers/children from the community of Leegomery, Hadley, Apley and surrounding areas. The open day will give an opportunity for parents/carers to pop in, meet the staff and to hear from previous/current parents & carers as well as a chance to see the changes that have been made to the Nursery since their transition from Leegomery Under Fives.

Dance the night away with an incredible line-up, featuring FIVE, The Feeling, Blazin’ Squad, Toploader & Scouting for Girls! Supporting these amazing names are some talented tribute acts: Planet ABBA, Take on This, Spice Girls – The Experience and Mini Mixx. Capital FM’s Sonny Jay will be the DJ and presenter for the day.
Alongside the line-up will be a whole host of children’s entertainment from Disney sing-alongs to Zeus, the biggest walking 12ft T-Rex dinosaur in Europe. There will also be opportunities to join AJ and Curtis Pritchard in fun, energetic dance workshops. And for the younger children, an immersive storytelling adventure with Jake Evans.
As well as the main stage, there will also be three tipis, consisting of:

Musical theatre company, ‘Get Your Wigle On‘ are performing their adaptation of The Little Mermaid at Theatre Severn. “With fabulous costumes, live orchestra and special effects this is a theatrical event not to be missed! Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colourful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.”

The ‘Three Inch Fools‘ production company are touring the UK with their adaptation of the infamous Gunpowder Plot conspiracy. Expect uproarious intrigue, endless costume changes, and many, many false moustaches in this highly flammable historical tale.

It’s a busy year for the Queen – she has lots of important events to attend. But disaster has struck the palace as Her Majesty’s knickers have been nicked- call the royal guard! Meanwhile, a little girl is wondering what knickers Her Majesty will choose to wear on a school visit! Will they be her ‘at home’ knickers – adorned with corgis – or her ‘garden party’ knickers, or perhaps her woolly Balmoral ones…?

Wrekin Forest School are having a ‘fun family forest day’ where you can try out archery, open fire cooking, cook your own lunch whether that be pizza, hot dog, sausage rolls, potato cakes & much more. You’ll learn how to build a shelter and how to light a fire, then toast your own marshmallows on it too! All of the equipment and ingredients will be provided, though if you want to bring additional toppings for a pizza, you’re more than welcome to.

A carnival of colour and celebration with groups from across Telford coming together to shout “We Are Telford”, celebrating Telford’s people and places, heritage and future. Including a Carnival parade through Telford, with dancers, costumes and giants arriving at Telford Town Park, where there will be stalls, stories, a performance stage, music and entertainment.
