Explore Castle Bromwich Gardens

Get access to day tickets to explore the 10 acres of beautiful gardens that are over 400 years old. Take a relaxing stroll through the gardens with your family and enjoy the stunning scenery, perhaps with an ice cream or two! The Open Air Courtyard Cafe is open for light refreshments; including Rourke’s prize winning pies, homemade cakes, cream teas, pastries, hot and cold drinks and ice creams. 

They are open regularly between Wednesdays – Sundays (with extra days in the school holidays and bank holidays) from 10:30am – 4:30pm. Location: Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens Trust, Chester Road, Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, B36 9BT. Price: Entry to the courtyard only is FREE, for other events you will have to check their website.

Family Walking Tour of Bournbrook

From street fights, to witchy rumours, to cinema accidents, Bournbrook is bursting at the seams with historical stories! The family tours will be led by performers, in character as local historical figures. They will share with you the funniest, spookiest and most exciting moments in Bournbrook’s past… This tour is perfect for families with children, who would like to know more about their local history. The tour will end at Creative Coffee Hub, where there will be hosting some creative workshops inspired by the history of the area!

Date and time: 13th August, 11:30am – 12:30pm, 1:30pm – 2:30pm, 3:30pm – 4:30pm. You will need to arrive 10 minutes before the tour begins. All of the tours will be wheelchair accessible and the 1:30pm tour will be BSL interpreted. Location: Selly Oak Library, 669 Bristol Road, Selly Oak, B29 6AE. Price: FREE.

Chelmsley Wood Library Activities

All of the activities below are part of Solihull’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme for school-aged children who receive benefits-related free school meals (FSM). This activity, including lunch, is FREE upon proof that your child is entitled to HAF provision. You’ll need to show proof that your child is entitled to HAF provision on the day. If your child does not receive benefits-related free school meals, you’ll need to purchase a general admission ticket.

Mystery Mosaics: The Enchanted Forest

Show off your artistic talent by creating your own mystical creature that will become part of a giant community mosaic!

Date and time: Wednesday 3rd August, 10am – 2pm. Location: Chelmsley Wood Library, 10 West Mall, Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre, Birmingham, B37 5TN. Price: General admission tickets are £30.

*You’ll also be able to do this workshop on Tuesday 2nd August at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Parkridge, Visitor Centre, Warwick Road, Solihull, B91 3HW.

My Miniature World

Learn to paint with fine detail brushes and create your own miniature world! You’ll be able to take your masterpiece home when you’re done.

Date and time: Wednesday 17th August, 10am – 2pm. Location: Chelmsley Wood Library, 10 West Mall, Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre, Birmingham, B37 5TN. Price: General admission tickets are £30.

Fashion Xpression

If your child is a little fashionista they’ll love these fashion workshops! Over 4 weeks they will be able to create their own designs, and at the end of the course take part in a fashion show!

Date and time: 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th August, 10am – 2pm each day. Location: Chelmsley Wood Library, 10 West Mall, Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre, Birmingham, B37 5TN. Price: General admission tickets are £30.

There is an additional session to make tote bags on the 11th August, but this is at a different location: Balsall Common Library, 283 Kenilworth Road, Balsall Common, CV7 7EL.

POW WOW Portraits

Make an exciting portrait influenced by Pop Art style – you’ll be using dots and vibrant colours to capture your ideas.

First Class Fridays

First Class Fridays are an event for 11-16 year olds to meet up with others and participate in meaningful and positive activities like dance, media projects, games, music studio and more. This is a safe space to chill and hang out, learn new skills, build new relationships and enjoy FREE food and drinks! Parents & carers are welcome to join too if they like.

Date and time: Every Friday from 6pm – 7:30. Location: Transformation Centre, 6 Rocky Lane, Birmingham, B6 5RQ. Price: FREE.
