2 Last Minute Christmas Decorations for Your Kids to Make

We’ve all been there. It’s nearly Christmas and you still haven’t had chance to get the decorations up. Well I’ve discovered two super easy methods of making Christmas decorations for your kids to create, one of which is some DIY paper lights to hang up over your wall or mantelpiece, the other is some painted pinecones that you can hang on your tree. Let us know which method your children and tried and send us a photo so we can see!

DIY Paper Lights

Paper lights, DIY crafts for children, Christmas decorations, paper lights hanging on a wall, coloured card in blue, yellow, pink and green

What You Need:

  • Different coloured card
  • Scissors
  • String
  • Glue
  • Hole punch
  • Blue tack

  1. Cut the card into lots of long strips. Make sure they are all the same length.
  2. Decide which strips will be used to thread through the string. These strips will need to be hole punched through both sides. Then glue the ends together.
  3. The card that will be used for the light, needs to be folded in half, with a slight bend in the middle. Then you need to glue both ends inside the card that will go at the top of the light, like in the image above.
  4. Once you have used up all the card, you need to thread the string through each light and decide where to hang. You can use blue tack to stick the string to your wall or mantelpiece.

Painted Pinecones

A child painting a pinecone with pink paint and brush, other pinecones in the background in different colours, Christmas decorations, crafts for children

What You Need:

  • Pinecones
  • Paint and paint brush
  • (Optional) glitter
  • (Optional) ribbon/string

  1. Go outside to your local park and collect some pinecones.
  2. Bring them home and make sure they’re clean and dry before you start painting them.
  3. Now start decorating! You can use normal paint, or glitter paint for some really sparkly pinecones.
  4. Once the pinecones are dry you can put them around the house as décor, or add some nice ribbon and hang them on your Christmas tree.
